Honoring Our Veterans at Myth Adventures

Honoring Our Veterans at Myth Adventures

At Myth Adventures, we’re proud to be part of a community filled with heroes—people whose stories of service, sacrifice, and dedication continue to inspire us every day. This Veterans Day, we want to take a moment to recognize and thank the veterans who are not only part of our store family but also help make Myth Adventures the welcoming and passionate community it is.

“At 18, fresh out of high school, I joined the U.S. Navy and discovered my calling in aviation. I trained as an Aviation Electrician’s Mate, graduating at the top of my class, and spent most of my military career stationed on Whidbey Island, Washington, with Electronic Attack Squadron VAQ-132. There, I worked on the EA-18G Growler aircraft and completed three overseas deployments—including one in Turkey as part of Operation Inherent Resolve, a mission dedicated to combating ISIS forces in Syria. During that deployment, I played a key role in maintaining mission readiness, helping complete over 100 successful sorties in support of coalition operations.

After years of service, I made the bold decision to transition from military life to higher education, moving to Brisbane, Australia, to attend Queensland University of Technology (QUT). That experience broadened my perspective and strengthened my leadership skills beyond the flight deck. Not long after, I settled in Edinburg, where I helped manage Myth Adventures. What began as a new chapter quickly became a passion. Today, my wife Kali and I run and own the store together, blending teamwork, dedication, and purpose—the same values that carried me through my military and academic journey.”

— Joey Galvan, Owner of Myth Adventures

“My name is AJ and I am a veteran and loyal customer at Myth Adventures. I served 9 years in the U.S. Army as a Blackhawk Helicopter Pilot. While deployed to combat operations overseas, I would build and paint Warhammer models in my downtime that my family sent me from Myth. I recently moved back to the RGV and have found a home at Myth. I help run the monthly Warhammer tournaments at the store, and I enjoy teaching people how to play the game and helping to make a safe and fun place where people feel like they belong.”

— AJ Garza, Myth Adventures Warhammer Tournament Organizer

“I am Corporal Lopez to my seniors and peers in the Army, but to those here at Myth adventures I am Alex. I’ve been serving in the United States Army now for just over 2 years. My time in the military has taught me great work ethic and how to keep pushing when the going gets tough. Thankfully, I ain’t the only one around here. Myth is a place where many service members, whether current or retired have made their place of refuge for their hobbies. The community has been welcoming and easy-going with many stories, experiences, and memories to share. Whether you’re throwing dice and having a laugh at a failed save with a soda (unfortunately not class 6) in your hand, guiding your party through a ghoulish dungeon, or shuffling your deck for the next game… one can always rest easy here at Myth.”

— Alex Lopez, Myth Adventures Employee, Warhammer Member

“Myth Adventures would like to wish all our customers who are veterans and those who are fortunate enough to have had or have veterans in their lives. While we mourn our founder Helgi, we celebrate Veteran’s Day in his honor. Helgi was a United States Army Veteran, who served in Vietnam. We are grateful for his service. We also like to honor and thank Joey for his service. I’m sure Helgi would be okay with that even if Joey served in the Navy, lol. Enjoy your day Vets. And thank you for your service to our country.”

—Sandra Davis, Former Owner and wife of the late Helgi Davis

To all who have served and continue to serve—thank you. Your courage, leadership, and community spirit inspire us every day. In honor of Veterans Day, Myth Adventures is offering 15% off for all active and inactive service members as a small token of our appreciation.

From all of us at Myth Adventures—thank you for your service and for being part of our story.
